Biography
After completing his studies at the Faculty of Law of Université de Sherbrooke in 2006, Me Benoît pursued his legal training at École du Barreau du Québec the following year, and successfully completed its intensive program in Ottawa. Since then, he has been specializing in criminal law defence.
His in-depth case analysis, the validity of his arguments, his impressive skills in court and his drive quickly enabled him to stand out in the legal community. Because of his notable professional qualities, he is at the origin of a class action (Benoit Atchom Makoma v. PGQ et al.) of $77M in compensation from government authorities for the arbitrary detention of thousands of citizens across the province.
Me Benoît has always been deeply committed to his community: he served as president of Centre d’intervention en abus sexuels pour la famille and collaborates with the University of Ottawa’s Pro bono and simulated trial programs. He also participates in training activities for future police officers at La Cité collégiale and educates students on clinical training on the real-world reality of a defence lawyer.
Over the course of his practice, Me Benoît has acquired comprehensive expertise in matters of impaired driving accusations and legal contestations related to police actions. In addition to his extensive knowledge, Mr. Benoît has a brilliant ability to make his clients feel at ease as building solid relationships through trust is at the core of his work. Finding the best solutions to minimize the impacts of accusations on their daily lives and their long-term consequences is also his top priority.
